Health and Safety Management System

Daejoo Electronic Materials operates a safety management system according to Articles 14 through 24, Chapter II Safety and Health Management System of the Occupational Safety and Health Act. We also conduct workplace health and safety management through an SHE process based on ISO 45001. In 2023, according to the quality, environmental, and health and safety policies, this system applies to all workers including the CEO and directors, unpaid volunteers, and contracted workers. Currently, no worksites, activities or workers are excluded from the application of this system. By applying the same standards to all worksites and activities, Daejoo Electronic Materials strives to create a safe working environment.

Health and Safety Policy

Placing the highest value on the health and safety management policy, Daejoo Electronic Materials strives to protect the health and safety of all stakeholders by creating a safe workplace and a pleasant working environment. To spread the safety culture, all members of the Company recognize the health and safety management policy, share the value, and take the lead in implementing the policy.

Daejoo Electronic Materials selects and implements key environmental and safety tasks on a yearly basis. Establishing and striving to fulfilling the goals of each worksite according to the health and safety policy, we are committed to creating safe and healthy working environments in all worksites.

Health and Safety Management Organization

Daejoo Electronic Materials conducts company-wide safety and environmental management with the Health and Safety Team of the headquarters office, an organization dedicated to health and safety management, at the lead.The Health and Safety Team manages the Company’s standard safety and environmental systems and handles health and safety strategy development and safety management for projects. In addition, we continuously monitor the safety management status, conduct regular safety inspections, and secure professional talents according to the characteristics of each worksite; thus strengthening expertise in safety and environmental management.

Occupational Health and Safety Committee

According to Article 19 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Daejoo Electronic Materials operates the Occupational Health and Safety Committee—which consists of the same number of labor and management representatives—on a quarterly basis. The Committee supports employees so that they can work in a pleasant, safe environment by handling all agenda items concerning employees' health and safety as selected through deliberation and voting by labor and management representatives, such as establishment of occupational accident prevention and recurrence prevention measures, preparation and change of health and safety management regulations, working environment inspection and improvement, workers’ health management, and selection of protective and safety equipment, ensuring that 100% of the items are addressed and resolved.

Identification of Risk Factors and Risk Management

Daejoo Electronic Materials conducts scheduled and non-scheduled risk assessments in order to systematically identify risk factors before and after an operation and keep the risks to a minimum. While checking the pre-operational risk factors by introducing the safe work permit system, we continuously maintain a management system under the safety activity goals set by each division and through activities according to the ISO system. In addition, the competency of persons in charge is maintained through the ISO certificate renewal and follow-up management inspection, with the Company’s performances and areas requiring improvement evaluated through the quarterly Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings. By following the risk assessment process, we continuously improve our occupational health and safety management system.

Risk Factor Reporting and Worker Protection Process

Daejoo Electronic Materials is operating a system wherein workers can swiftly report the operation-related risk factors and situations. We also guarantee the workers’ right to suspend work according to the Register of Legislation and Regulatory Requirements (Article 52 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act). While taking immediate actions in relation to the risk situations reported according to the emergency handling plan by type, we strictly abide by a set of clearly established policies for the protection of workers. In addition, when an operation-related accident occurs, we identify the cause through risk assessment and implement corrective action according to the ISO process. We also control the health-related risks based on the results of working environment monitoring and health examinations. By investigating for and handling risk factors, Daejoo Electronic Materials continuously improves workplace safety and health.

Occupational Accident Management

To prevent and control occupational accidents effectively, Daejoo Electronic Materials monitors the data on occupational accident rate, number of victims, number of deaths, etc. on a yearly basis. We continuously identify operation-related risk factors through risk assessments and daily safety inspections, and there have been no risk factors causing serious injuries during the reporting period. At the same time, we remove risk factors from worksites through monthly inspections by safety managers and daily inspections by management supervisors in addition to the ISO 45001 operation. Under the occupational accident management system, we continuously identify and evaluate risk factors in our worksites and thereby secure safety in the working environment. Currently, there are no on-going operation-related risk factors or those requiring additional actions.

Occupational Diseases

Through risk assessment, Daejoo Electronic Materials thoroughly identifies the risk factors that can cause occupational diseases. No risk factors causing diseases have been detected during this reporting period, and there are no additional disease-related risk factors.

Health and Safety Emergency Response System

Daejoo Electronic Materials established an emergency response system by accident type to minimize damages upon the occurrence of an emergency situation, such as operation suspension, occupational accident, or fire.

Compliance with Health and Safety Regulations

Daejoo Electronic Materials monitors the status of compliance with safety and environmental regulations on a regular basis by identifying and selecting the applicable domestic and international statutes. We check the status of regulatory compliance through internal reviews led by the Health and Safety Team, or check the compliance details through internal assessments in each worksite. By evaluating the status of compliance with health and safety regulations, we inspect whether or not the requirements specified by the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Serious Accidents Punishment Act, etc. are met, identify areas for improvement, and subsequently prepare and implement improvement measures. In addition, we provide training to our employees to maintain continuity along with training to secure the competencies necessary for regulatory compliance.

Safety Golden Rules
To prevent accidents caused by unsafe behaviors, Daejoo Electronic Materials has established the Safety Golden Rules by analyzing seven patterns.

Evaluation of Health and Safety Implementation

Daejoo Electronic Materials conducts an annual risk assessment and inspects the health and safety implementation status of business divisions every six months in order to assess the company-wide health and safety status comprehensively, detect areas requiring improvement, and take appropriate measures.

Crisis Response Training

In preparation for major accidents, such as chemical leakage, fire, and explosion, Daejoo Electronic Materials conducts emergency response training on a regular basis. In addition, through annual training, we help our employees thoroughly familiarize themselves with the duties assigned to them in case of an emergency and thereby improve their crisis response capabilities. Having prepared a response manual in preparation for various environmental and occupational accidents, we are building a system to minimize the scale of damage in case of an accident.

Through the training, workers create a safe working environment and build capabilities to minimize potential risk factors effectively. The training contributes to continuously strengthening workplace health and safety.

Training Programs

Health and Safety Culture Diffusion Activities

Daejoo Electronic Materials carries out various activities to protect employees’ health and safety and spread the company-wide health and safety culture. First, through the smoking cessation program, we provide smokers with six-month training and consulting service to help them quit smoking. Successful participants receive health products and incentives as rewards. Second, through the walking challenge (donation program), we encourage our employees to contribute to society while improving their health. A set amount of money is donated according to the cumulative steps walked by the participants. Third, we operate the health self-check program offering health check and consulting service with which our employees can detect chronic diseases earlier on and prevent such diseases. We also provide a wide range of information so that our employees can practice healthy living habits. Through these activities, we protect employees’ health and safety and spread the health and safety culture throughout the Company.

Worker Participation, Consultation, and Communication on Occupational Health and Safety
Daejoo Electronic Materials actively promotes workers’ participation and consultation in the occupational health and safety management system development, implementation, and assessment. We collect workers’ opinions and suggestions during the safety NMT activities and daily safety inspections and reflect them in the field operations for improvement. The occupational health and safety-related information is delivered to workers on a regular basis, and workers’ active participation is encouraged. As the official consultative bodies for labor-management joint health and safety management, the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Labor-Management Council are operated. The Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Labor-Management Council convene meetings on a quarterly and monthly basis, respectively. These consultative bodies collect the opinions of workers and represent them. The relevant decision-making authority and responsibilities are specified in the internal regulations (ESH-0107). Performing actively to protect workers’ health and safety, the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Labor-Management Council are effectively representing workers.
